Busy defensively in Belgium game
Bell had five clearances and one interception and completed 32 passes in in Friday's 5-1 loss to Belgium.
Analysis: Bell did what he could to stymie the foes in the midfield, resulting in a decent output in the passive phase, but he had little success overall. He has tallied at least one interception, accumulating four, and one clearance, piling up seven, in his three World Cup appearances, adding five tackles (two won), one off-target shot and one chance created.
Creates one chance vs Egypt
Bell had one shot (zero on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Egypt.
Analysis: Bell made his second straight start in the World Cup, playing the full 90 minutes in defensive midfield. While he played slightly more defensive than his counterpart Marko Stamenic, he still managed one shot and one chance created on the attack. After a solid first half from a defensive standpoint, it all fell apart in the second for Bell and the Kiwis as Egypt dominated and scored three goals. Bell will need to be better in the final group stage match versus Belgium, a must-win match in order to advance to the knockouts.
One clearance on Monday
Joe Bell generated three tackles (one won), one clearance and two interceptions in Monday's 2-2 draw versus Iran.
Analysis: Bell won three tackles, most by any New Zealand player in the match. Other than that, the 27-year-old made a couple of interceptions. Bell also went on to win two aerial duels and completed a dribble as well.
