Lively off bench
Marmoush registered one shot (zero on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Friday's 1-1 draw against Iran.
Analysis: Marmoush was surprisingly dropped from the starting lineup but came on at half time and picked up where he left off, causing problems and drawing fouls throughout his time on the pitch. The story of his tournament continues however as his efforts have yet to produce a goal or an assist, with one shot that failed to test the keeper and two crosses reflecting a night where the work rate was there but the end product was not. He is expected to return to the starting XI for the round of 32 against Australia, where getting off the mark will be the target against a side that kept two clean sheets across the group stage.
Threatening display without reward
Marmoush registered five shots (zero on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one corner in Monday's 1-1 draw against Belgium.
Analysis: Marmoush led the line for Egypt and while he found himself isolated at times, he looked dangerous whenever the ball reached him and was his side's most threatening presence throughout. He finished the game with five shots and created one chance, but his decision making let him down at key moments and prevented what could have been a more decisive contribution in front of goal. With New Zealand up next, the group's weakest defensive side on paper, the conditions should be considerably more favorable for him to get back among the goals at a moment when scoring could prove decisive in the race to top the group.
