Strong showing after early call
Yasser Ibrahim registered four tackles (three won) and seven clearances in Friday's 1-1 draw versus Iran. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 42nd minute.
Analysis: Yasser was initially given a rest but was called into action after just 14 minutes when Mohamed Abdelmoneim picked up an injury, and his introduction brought immediate solidity to the backline. He was exceptional defensively, contributing four tackles, seven clearances and two blocks including a crucial stop in the final action of the game. Having now played all three group stage games he has accumulated six tackles, two interceptions and 18 clearances across those appearances and is expected to be in the starting XI for the first knockout game against Australia.
Disciplined display at center back
Yasser Ibrahim had one tackle (one won), three clearances and one interception in Monday's 1-1 draw against Belgium.
Analysis: Yasser started at center back next to Hamdy Fathy and helped form a defensive partnership that frustrated Belgium's attack for large parts of the game. One tackle, one interception and three clearances did not fully capture his impact, as it was the sustained pressure he applied that defined his performance. He has featured in all of Egypt's biggest games and is set to keep his place when they take on New Zealand in what will be a must-win fixture.
