Analysis: Ashour was deployed on the right in an unfamiliar role that went against his natural side and it showed. He looked a shadow of himself in that position and struggled to make any offensive impact, managing only two crosses with one accurate before being taken off at half time. Two tackles and one interception were his only defensive contributions in a very quiet outing.

Analysis: Ashour earned a start despite featuring only sparingly in the recent friendlies, chosen by coach Hossam Hassan for the creativity, dribbling, ball carrying and shooting power he offers. He justified the decision in the most direct way possible, scoring Egypt's only goal with a powerful long-range strike, and also took charge of corners from the left while fulfilling his defensive responsibilities with one tackle, one interception and one clearance. The only blemish on his night was a big chance he could not take that would have seen him walk away with a brace.
