Limited defending, strong on ball
Souttar had two clearances and two interceptions in Thursday's 0-0 draw versus Paraguay.
Analysis: Souttar did not have much defensive work to do on the night but recorded his first interceptions of the tournament, picking up two along with two clearances and winning four of six aerial duels. With Australia enjoying more possession than in the first two games he was heavily involved in the build-up, completing 86 passes and five long balls from the back. He has been an important figure in the group stage for a side that has kept two clean sheets in three games, contributing two tackles, 18 clearances, two interceptions and four blocks across those appearances.
Three clearances in loss Friday
Souttar registered three clearances and two blocked shots in Friday's 2-0 defeat to USA. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 88th minute.
Analysis: Souttar was unable to repeat the dominant defensive effort he delivered in the win over Turkiye, when he racked up 13 clearances and two tackles. Souttar, who's an imposing defensive presence due to his size, should remain in the XI to face Paraguay on Thursday, June 25, and his physicality could play well against the Guaranies' physical attacking line headlined by Antonio Sanabria.
